KCG has completed the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment (OHSAS) 18001 audits and has received certification. The project was inaugurated by the Planning and Development Department early last year upon the request of the Top Management.
The certification was awarded after a series of audits that started about a year ago. The company has always focused on safety and, because the company’s business extends beyond Saudi Arabia borders, it chose to be certified by an international certification body. The certification was done by Moody International and is accredited by the reputable NORSK AKKREDITERING of Norway. OHSAS 18001:2007 is an international standard that embraces the British Standard BS 8800. It is intended to assist companies in managing and negating occupational health and safety risks to employees and to improve existing health and safety management systems.
The company has already developed a risk-based safety, health and environment management guidelines for its entire activities, which incorporate the requirements of both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, including safety commitment and leadership, environmental management, emergency systems, behavioural safety interventions and performance measurement and control. In addition, KCG applies the principles of visible, felt leadership, which entails the involvement of management in the day-to-day activities of the workforce to influence behaviour according to ISO 9001 standard and foster a safety culture as well. KCG deploys safety officers, inspectors and supervisors within every aspect of its projects to ensure that a successful risk-driven program is executed on site.
This recent certification is a reflection of the Quality Assurance team’s commitment to workplace safety and reaffirms KCG’s position in terms of safety in the construction industry.
